FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers about privacy, compression, file limits, and browsers. Each tool page also has questions specific to that tool.

Privacy and your files

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Every tool — compressing, merging, splitting, organizing, editing, and converting — runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, and we never see their contents.

Do you store or see my file after I've used a tool?

No. The file exists only in your browser's memory while the page is open, and is never transmitted anywhere. There's no server-side storage for it to sit in.

Compression

Can I compress a PDF to an exact file size?

You choose a target size, and the tool keeps the highest image quality that fits under it, without going below a set minimum. If it reaches your target, it shows the measured size. If it can't (some PDFs, especially text-heavy ones, are already close to their smallest size), it tells you and gives you the smallest file it made.

What size targets can I choose?

One-tap presets for 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, and 2 MB, or any custom size in KB or MB you enter yourself.

Will compressing my PDF reduce its quality?

A PDF with no images is only repacked, so it looks exactly the same. Photos and scans are re-encoded, at the highest quality that still fits your target, so a small target on a scanned document can make it visibly softer. Pages are only turned into images as a last resort, and the result screen tells you when that happens.

Can I compress multiple PDFs at once?

Yes — the batch compressor lets you add several PDFs, compress them all to the same target size, and download each result individually or all together as one ZIP.

Files, formats, and devices

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB. Because processing happens on your own device, how comfortably a large file is handled also depends on your device's free memory — phones and older computers may struggle with very large or very long files.

Can I use a password-protected PDF?

Not if it needs a password to open — every tool refuses those. Merge, split, organize, edit, and PDF to Word also refuse PDFs that only restrict editing; compression accepts them. Nothing tries to guess or remove a password. Save an unprotected copy in a program that can open the file, then try again.

Will the result open in Adobe Acrobat, Preview, or my browser?

Yes — every tool produces a standard PDF (or, for PDF to Word, a standard .docx file) that opens in ordinary PDF viewers and word processors, the same as the original.

What browsers does this work on?

The tools are tested in current desktop versions of Chrome and Edge. They're built on standard web features that current Firefox and Safari also support, but real-device testing on those browsers and on phones is still in progress — if a tool can't run in your browser, it tells you so instead of failing silently.

Does this work on my phone?

The site is built to work in current mobile browsers. Because files are processed on the phone itself, large files take longer than on a computer and can run out of memory on older devices.

Why doesn't my Chinese, Japanese, or Korean PDF convert to Word?

Some older CJK PDFs use a font encoding whose decoding data would have to be downloaded, one file per encoding. Downloading it would tell our server something about your document, so the tools don't. PDF to Word refuses those files instead of producing garbled text, and compression won't turn their pages into images. Compressing, merging, splitting, organizing, and editing them still keeps the text intact.
