Know before you start

What this editor can and can't do

It's built for marking up and signing a PDF, with text changes where the file allows them. It isn't a page-layout editor.

  • Change existing text

    Usually

Click text on the page and type over it. The replacement doesn't reflow the page, so longer text can run past the original's space.

  • Edit a scanned page

    No

A scan is a picture with no real text in it. The tool tells you when you click one. You can still add text or a whiteout box on top.

  • Undo, redo, delete

    Yes

Any object you added can be selected and deleted, and Undo and Redo work until you export.

  • Fill in form fields

    No

Form fields aren't edited as fields. Type into the page with the Text tool instead.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

See all frequently asked questions
Can this edit the existing text already in my PDF?

Usually. Click existing text on the page and a cursor appears where you clicked, so you can type over it. This rewrites the PDF's own text, not an overlay. Some limits: a scanned page has no real text to edit, and the tool tells you when you click one; a replacement doesn't reflow the page, so longer text can run past the space the original took up; and a character the PDF's font can't show fails just that one edit, with a message, instead of corrupting the file.

Is my PDF uploaded while I edit it?

No. Every change happens entirely in your browser — your file is never sent to a server.

Can I remove or undo something I added?

Yes — select any object you've added and delete it, or use Undo/Redo at any point before you export.

What does the whiteout tool actually do?

It draws an opaque box over the area you select, covering what's underneath in the exported PDF. It doesn't remove the original content from the file's underlying data, so it isn't a substitute for a true redaction tool when the file will be shared with people who could access the source layers.

Does zooming in or out change where my edits end up?

No. Zoom only changes what you see while you work — every object's position and size is stored independent of zoom, so the exported PDF is unaffected by whatever zoom level you were using.

Can I edit a password-protected PDF?

No. PDFs with a password, including ones that only restrict editing, aren't supported. Save an unprotected copy in a program that can open the file, then open that copy here.
