What to expect
What fits in 200 KB
200 KB is a common limit on visa and immigration forms. It leaves a little more room than 100 KB for a signed, multi-field form or a sharper scan, but it's still one of the tighter limits you'll meet.
If your document is a signed form rather than a plain scan, the signature, stamps, and seals are part of the page images. The tool uses one quality level for every image in the file, so a signature gets no special treatment. Zoom in on it in the result before you submit.
Some documents can't reach 200 KB without becoming hard to read. The result screen always shows the measured size, and when the target wasn't met, it says so.
A signed one- or two-page scan
Usually fitsThere's room for a sharper scan than 100 KB allows. Zoom in on the signature in the result before you submit.
A form filled in on a computer
DependsMostly text, which is only repacked. Embedded fonts set how small it can get, so a form that starts well over 200 KB may stop short.
A scanned form of four or more pages
Often tight200 KB split across the pages leaves 50 KB or less for each, which is where scans start to blur.
A form with photo pages attached
Often tightPhotos take most of the budget. Check whether the portal wants the photo as a separate upload.
How it works
How the tool gets to 200 KB
Choose your PDF
It opens in your browser, with the target already set to 200 KB. Nothing is uploaded.
The tool works down to 200 KB
It repacks the file and re-encodes its images, tries several quality levels, and keeps the highest one that fits. For image-heavy files that still don't fit, pages can be turned into images as a last resort, and the result screen says when that happened.
Check the result, then download
You see the measured size of the file you'll get. If 200 KB wasn't reachable, you get the smallest version the tool made, marked as a best effort.
Still too big?
If it won't get under 200 KB
The result screen tells you when a target wasn't reached. These are the options that usually get a file through.
Submit the photo or ID page on its own
If the portal has separate upload slots, pull those pages out with Split PDF and compress each file to its own limit.
Drop pages you weren't asked for
Cover sheets and instruction pages count toward the 200 KB. Remove them in Organize PDF Pages.
Rescan the pages at a lower resolution
A lower scanner resolution gives the compressor smaller page images to start from, so less detail is lost getting under 200 KB.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will my signature or stamp still be legible after compressing to 200 KB?
Usually, but check. Every image in the file is re-encoded at the same quality, so a signature loses detail along with the rest of the page. If it looks blurry in the result, try a larger target if your portal allows it.
What if my visa or immigration form is several pages?
Every page counts toward the same 200 KB, so a multi-page form has less room per page. If it can't get under 200 KB, you'll see the smallest size the tool reached and can decide whether your portal will accept it.
Does compressing a signed form invalidate the signature?
A scanned or hand-drawn signature is just an image, so it stays on the page. A certified digital signature (the kind Adobe Acrobat reports as valid) is different: it stops validating once any tool rewrites the file, and compressing rewrites it. Compress the form before it's digitally signed, or ask the portal whether the signature needs to stay valid.
